SERVICE OVERVIEW
The Centre is leading a national initiative to ensure that plant materials used in the production of herbal medicines come exclusively from cultivated sources. This effort aims to promote the conservation of medicinal plants in Ghana, aligning with the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP). The NBSAP focuses on managing aquatic and terrestrial biodiversity to ensure sustainable and equitable benefits for all Ghanaians, now and in the future. Consequently, the Plant Development Department has established a nursery unit to raise essential medicinal plant seedlings using appropriate reproductive parts. These seedlings are sold to herbalists and other interested parties who cultivate medicinal plants.
The cost of seedlings varies depending on the medicinal plant. However, all seedlings are priced affordably, regardless of the plant species.
Through the Plant Development Department, the Centre offers extensive support to anyone interested in cultivating medicinal plants. This support is provided free of charge to the farmers.
