The Centre for Plant Medicine Research (CPMR) welcomed the Deputy Minister for Health during a visit aimed at gaining firsthand insight into the Centre’s work and its contribution to the development and promotion of plant-based medicines in Ghana.

The visit provided an opportunity for the Deputy Minister to engage with management and staff of CPMR and to learn more about the Centre’s research activities, medicinal plant development, quality control, clinical research, and efforts towards advancing evidence-based traditional and herbal medicine.

During the visit, the Deputy Minister toured key facilities of the Centre and was briefed on ongoing research programmes, laboratory activities, medicinal plant cultivation, and the processes involved in the development and analysis of herbal medicinal products.

Management of CPMR highlighted the Centre’s mandate and its commitment to generating scientific evidence to support the safe, effective, and sustainable use of medicinal plants. Discussions also focused on strengthening collaboration between relevant institutions and creating an enabling environment for research, innovation, and the development of Ghana’s herbal medicine sector.

The Deputy Minister commended CPMR for its contribution to healthcare research and encouraged the Centre to continue its work in harnessing Ghana’s rich medicinal plant resources to support national healthcare delivery and economic development.

The visit further demonstrated the importance of collaboration between the Ministry of Health, research institutions, industry, and other stakeholders in promoting research and innovation in plant-based healthcare.

CPMR remains committed to advancing scientific research, innovation, and the sustainable development of medicinal plants for improved healthcare outcomes in Ghana and beyond.
