Production

The Production unit of CPMR traces its origins back to 1960, preceding the establishment of the Centre in 1975. Initially, its primary objective was to manufacture herbal products prescribed to patients diagnosed with various ailments by a team of herbalists led by Dr. Oku Ampofo, the Centre’s founding father. Operations commenced at the Goil Filling Station in Mampong Township before relocating to the former Mampong Community Centre. In 1979, the department transitioned to its current premises at the Centre.

FUNCTIONS

The Department oversees the manufacturing of essential herbal medicines, which encompass a variety of forms such as decoctions, powders, teas, and ointments.
Key areas within the department include:
– Raw materials processing unit: Handling the initial processing of raw herbal materials.
– Boiling section: Where decoctions are prepared through boiling.
– Preservation section: Ensuring the stability and longevity of the herbal products.
– Production floor: The main area where manufacturing operations take place.
– Powder processing and tea bagging unit: Responsible for processing herbal materials into powders and packaging teas.
– Finished goods stores: Storage area for the final products awaiting distribution or use.

Industrial and Commercial Unit (ICU)

The Industrial and Commercial Unit was born out of the Phytochemistry Department in 1998. The objectives of the Unit is to lead oversee Centre’s collaborative efforts with industry.

The Industrial and Commercial Department is tasked with the strategic development of marketable products. Since its establishment, the department has forged partnerships with private enterprises to bring several products to market, with some already in commercial circulation. Presently, the department is proactively engaged in collaborative efforts with industry stakeholders to further expand the portfolio of commercially viable products for mass production by private entities.

Dr. Doris Kumadoh

Head of Production Department Dr. Kumadoh is the Head of Production Department. She holds a PhD and MPhil in Pharmaceutics, and B.PHARM rom the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST). She is a members of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana.
